A mature and well understood technology which remains the most cost effective in many applications. The up coming EU Battery Directive will limit its use further but also supports certain markets where there is no alternative. It is therefore still an acceptable solution for certain applications (e.g. power tools and emergency lighting).

Available in cylindrical (eg. AA) and battery (e.g. 9V) formats.

Applications are: emergency lighting, power tools.
